Building products and writing fiction are the same job wearing different clothes. Both are about deciding what to leave out.

• Cut the darlings. The clever feature and the clever sentence are usually the first things to go.
• Ship the draft. Feedback on something real beats consensus on something imaginary.
• Listen to the edges. The bug report and the confused reader are telling you the same thing.
